The Future Of Instagram for Wedding Photographers

If you’re active on Instagram, you know there’s been a TON of changes released on the platform recently. The push to prioritize video in the algorithm has accelerated considerably. The format of our feeds is even evolving to resemble TikTok! It’s a far cry from the 1:1 square feed Instagram started with.

Instagram wants users to create content for the platform within the platform. Just like TikTok. Static posts and photos have been deprioritized. Hashtags no longer contribute in the same way they used to. And, you’re more likely to see posts the algorithm thinks you’ll like rather than posts from the people you actually follow.

A LOT of people, myself included, aren’t super happy about this. The platform is heading in a direction that doesn’t serve small business owners. We’re not content creators. We’ve got enough on our plates without having to add creating video content to the mix.

So what does this mean for wedding photographers?

More than ever, it’s so important to have a strong presence online, outside of social media. Websites and blogs that have strong SEO are going to be a major key to success moving forward! The better you’re ranking on different search engines, the easier it will be for people to find you.
